Video: Neurodiversity in the workplace

In this video Caroline Shafar one of our Partners and Employment Law experts is joined by Helen Musgrove, Director of Psychological Consulting at Lexxic, together they explore the key considerations employers should making surrounding neurodiversity in the workplace.

More and more people are being diagnosed with a neurodifference (such as dyslexia or ADHD) often later in life. There is a push to move away from the outdated view of neurodifferences as deficits, and to recognise the strengths which those who are neurodivergent can bring to the workplace. However, whilst embracing diverse perspectives and ways of working can bring real benefits, it can also create tensions in already complex workplace environments. The challenge for employers is to embrace the strengths of those who are neurodivergent and design-in neuroinclusion to ensure that those individuals are not disadvantaged in the workplace.

In the video our experts Helen and Caroline discuss key questions, such as:

  • What is neurodiversity?
  • What are common strengths of neurodivergent individuals?
  • Why is it important to embrace neurodiversity in the workplace?
  • What happens when you fail to do so?
  • What adjustments can be made to the workplace to support neurodiversity? How can these be ‘designed-in’?
