Further Teacher Strike Action Planned in England and Wales (with potentially more to come)

Whatever sector you work in if you have caring responsibilities for children of school age you will likely have an awareness of strike action already taken by teachers represented by the National Education Union (NEU) in February and March this year.
Since then, the Government offered education unions a funded £1,000 one off payment for their members this year and a 4.3% pay rise for most teachers in 2023 – 2024. The offer also stated that starting salaries were to rise to £30,000 from September this year.
The NEU has rejected the pay and funding offer following a ballot of its members (with 66% members turning out and 98% of members being in favour of rejecting the offer). The NEU announced two further national strike days on 27 April 2023 and 2 May 2023. On 4 April 2023, NEU Conference delegates also voted for three further days of industrial action to take place in late June or early July.
The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) and the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) have also voted down the deal and will be consulting on next steps (including, it is understood) a formal ballot on industrial action.
